Women’s Health reports inflammation is the body’s response to internal threats (i.e., injury), however too much inflammation can impact one’s health. Experts discuss inflammation prevention strategies, which include but are not limited to stress reduction, exercise recovery and getting proper sleep.

Women’s Health spoke to Jordan D. Metzl, MD, primary care sports medicine physician at HSS, who explained how skipping exercise rest time can impede on the body’s healing process. “Chronic inflammation can promote tissue breakdown and encourage muscle atrophy,” noted Dr. Metzl.
