Hospitals Are Focusing on a New ‘Vital Sign’: How Patients Actually Feel

For many clinicians, PROMs are becoming something akin to a new vital sign. The implications extend far beyond patient satisfaction scores. PROMs are increasingly influencing how hospitals evaluate treatments, allocate resources and prepare for reimbursement changes tied to value-based care.
Dr. Bostrom shared PROMs have been part of HSS's care model since the 1990s, but their role has evolved dramatically over the past decade.
“It’s morphed from a research tool to something that’s really measuring quality and measuring how well patients are doing,” he said.
