EmblemHealth Prepares to Launch Its Reimagined City of New YorkHMO Plan

EmblemHealth, one of the nation’s largest non-profit health insurers, has worked closely with the City of New York and its union leaders to create a new model for employee-based health and wellness coverage. EmblemHealth’s new Reimagined City of New York HMO Plan combines a curated health care experience with affordable pricing and ease of use for City workers.

As part of the new plan, EmblemHealth is launching a new Centers of Excellence program with Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), the top-ranked orthopedic hospital in the nation, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), one of the country’s leading cancer centers. This program will begin on Jan. 1, 2019 for HMO members and July 1, 2019 for PPO members.

The goals of this effort reflect EmblemHealth’s focus on deploying more services and supports to keep City workers healthy, to partner with the world-class health care institutions, and to provide a dedicated team to help City workers navigate the health system.

Members in the HMO plan will still have access to all of their preventive and specialist benefits, but now with the added ability to coordinate all of their care and appointments, receive personalized health coaching and care management, and access to innovative Centers of Excellence support and care.

"Our commitment to the City and its unions is to deliver the highest quality care for the hard-working men and women of New York," EmblemHealth President and CEO Karen Ignagni said. "As a centerpiece of this new model, we are proud to partner with two nationally-recognized health institutions equally committed to investing in the health and wellness of City workers and their families."

"At HSS, we serve as the leader in musculoskeletal health by providing the best possible care to our patients, focusing on improving movement and thereby improving quality of life," said Louis A. Shapiro, President and CEO, HSS. "We are pleased to extend that same high-quality care to the individuals who protect, serve and teach New Yorkers."

"Like EmblemHealth, MSK is proud to call New York City home and is committed to serving New York City patients," said Lee Erickson, MD, Memorial Sloan Kettering’s Deputy Physician in Chief for Clinical Operations. "As EmblemHealth’s Oncology Center of Excellence, MSK doctors, nurses, and staff will have the great privilege to better serve New York City’s workforce, those who keep our City running day in and day out, through world class, personalized cancer care close to home when they need it."

EmblemHealth will have a dedicated and specially trained team to help City workers navigate through the health care system and get them to the right care at the right time. City members will also have access to a new, state-of-the-art health outreach and education program through Care Management Solutions, Inc., an EmblemHealth affiliate, with personalized value-based insurance design supports for staying healthy and managing their chronic conditions.
