HSS 'prehabilitation' study shows promise in driving improved knee replacement outcomes

Becker’s Spine Review reports on the findings of an HSS study conducted by Iris Navarro-Millan, MD, rheumatologist at HSS, evaluating whether “pre-habilitation” programs could empower patients undergoing knee replacements and lead to improved outcomes. These programs would implement trained peer coaches who previously underwent a knee replacement, to provide counsel to patients prior to the procedure. Study results demonstrated by optimizing muscle strength, physical condition and mental preparation before surgery can lead to improved outcomes.
