MensHealth.com reports the requirements for becoming a personal trainer differs for every gym, and the concern of most people looking for a trainer who are unable to differentiate a good certification versus a poor one.

Jordan D. Metzl, MD, primary care sports medicine physician at HSS, provided commentary to MensHealth.com regarding concerns of working with unqualified trainers, including improper instruction and supervision. “Unqualified trainers can’t always spot bad form or teach good form, making injuries more likely,” said Dr. Metzl.
