Critical Care at the Epicenter of COVID-19

Outpatient Surgery Magazine features a Q&A with HSS anesthesiologist Sean Garvin, MD, discussing his experience on the frontlines caring for patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Garvin explained the care provided was a full team commitment and while there was uncertainty, staff remained dedicated to the task and collaborated and supported each other every step of the way.

Forward looking, Dr. Garvin hopes the pandemic will serve as a reminder of the many skills anesthesiologists bring to the table. “We can scale up, provide care outside of our day to day and do it well. We can handle a crisis, make critical decisions and handle anything thrown our way with poise and calm. You need these skills to keep patients alive during a pandemic,” he noted.
