CEMENTLESS KNEE REPLACEMENT 27 MINUTES FASTER!?

Orthopedics This Week reports on HSS study findings presented at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) 2022 Annual Meeting finding minimal difference in early outcomes when comparing cementless vs. cemented total knee replacement.

HSS hip and knee surgeon and study co-author Geoffrey H. Westrich, MD, said “Cementless total knee replacement implants are becoming more commonplace as surgeon realize the potential benefits for their patients.”

He continued, “In our study, cementless total knee implants saved about 25% of operating time but didn't have a higher risk of complications compared to traditional cemented knee implants. This bodes well for the future of cementless knee implants, as they have the potential for greater longevity, especially for younger patients.”

“In patients with good bone quality, cementless knees will undoubtedly become more commonplace and could eventually replace cemented knees,” he added.
