CBS New York interviewed HSS president and CEO Louis A. Shapiro live on-air at Lupus Research Alliance's annual Walk with Us to Cure Lupus in New York City, an event sponsored by HSS.

Mr. Shapiro explained that lupus is a complicated condition and it's important to find a way to help people live with the disease.

"HSS is one of the world leaders in caring for patients who have lupus and conducting research in this area… A lot of people know us for orthopedics, but diseases that are treated by rheumatologists are also part of our core mission and lupus is one of those diseases that is something that we have had an impact on and have determined to be very important," said Mr. Shapiro.

Additionally, he noted that more than 840 HSS employees participated in the walk, of which HSS is a co-sponsor.
