Bilateral Total Knee Arthroplasty in Hemophilia Patients is Safe and Cost-Effective, Study Suggests
Hemophilia News Today reported on a recent study by HSS that found that bilateral knee arthroplasty is a safe and cost-effective treatment for patients with hemophilic arthropathy (HA).
HSS researchers studied 36 patients to investigate the safety, cost-effectiveness, and clinical outcomes of patients with HA who received bilateral total knee arthroplasty (TKA) compared to unilateral TKA.
According to the article, those who underwent bilateral TKA did not require more transfusions compared to those who had unilateral TKA.
The study found that both groups exhibited similar results and that bilateral and unilateral TKA are both safe methods for patients with HA. They added that further large-scale studies will have to be conducted to obtain a definitive conclusion.
