Big Benefits from Early Treatment

Arthritis Today reported on a study that found that patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) didn't achieve sustained remission lasting at least six months.

HSS rheumatologist Theodore R. Fields, MD, FACP, who was not involved in the study, commented on the findings. "It reminds us that there are still unmet needs in rheumatoid arthritis. It [also] confirms prior data that sustained remission is more common in early RA than in later disease, supporting the concept of a 'window of opportunity,' where patients treated earlier are more likely to go into remission," he said.
