‘Beat the Burn’

Women’s Health reports exercise may cause activity-induced GI troubles (i.e., cramping, nausea, heartburn, diarrhea), and provides suggested techniques from experts on how to prevent and treat tummy troubles throughout your routine.

Kathryn D. McElheny, MD, primary care sports medicine physician at HSS, provided a comment to Women’s Health, stating, “These activity-induced GI troubles are self-limited - meaning they shouldn’t continue after you’ve properly treated them in the moment or stopped the exercise.”
