Ankylosing Spondylitis and Vertigo: What Are the Connections?

Healthline reports on the connections between ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and vertigo and includes insight from experts including Dalit Ashany, MD, rheumatologist at HSS.

The articled noted that more research is needed, but some evidence suggests that vertigo and related conditions such as inner ear disorders, are more common than average in people with AS.

According to Dr. Ashany, “These studies are all very small, and it is hard to make a definitive conclusion that conditions that cause vertigo are more common in AS.”

Given the lack of clear evidence linking the two conditions, “I would recommend being evaluated by either a neurologist or ENT who would look for known causes that could possibly be addressed,” she added.
