ACR announces draft guidelines for reproductive health management

Healio Rheumatology reported that HSS rheumatologist Lisa R. Sammaritano, MD, and a team of researchers drafted clinical practice guidelines for the management of reproductive issues among patients with rheumatic conditions.

"We have had an explosion of new therapies over the past 10 to 20 years in rheumatology," said Dr. Sammaritano. She noted that with the addition of new therapies, there is an opportunity to educate both obstetricians and rheumatologists regarding pregnancy planning.

Topics addressed in the guidelines include the use of contraception in women with rheumatic diseases, as well as the use of low-dose aspirin and hydroxychloroquine during pregnancy.
