Hospital and health system chief marketing officers to know | 2026
Becker's Hospital Review has recognized Janelle Hanley, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) at HSS, among the 2026 chief marketing officers to know in hospitals and health systems.
The list recognizes chief marketing officers who serve as strategists, storytellers and brand architects. These leaders drive the way patients, communities and the broader public connect with their hospitals and health systems.
From data-driven campaigns to brand-building efforts, these executives meld creativity and strategy to craft narratives that resonate, ensuring people recognize, believe in, and turn to their organizations when they need care.
As CMO, Janelle leads the organization’s marketing vision and strategy across brand management, advertising and media, public and media relations, web experience and marketing analytics. Under her leadership, the system achieved a 23% year-over-year increase in new patient online appointments, more than doubling its key performance indicator target, and her patient-centered media strategy drove a 40% increase in organic search traffic. Janelle launched an integrated brand campaign that created a new strategic framework for messaging, media and content, and implemented a comprehensive marketing analytics program enabling precise return on investment tracking. One of her standout accomplishments is the creation of the Emmy award-winning “Science Of” series, which brought together system experts and elite athletes to explore the mechanics of the human body and the science behind peak performance across 10 sports. In addition, the system was nationally ranked No. 1 in orthopedics for the 16th consecutive year by U.S. News & World Report in 2025-26, and was named the No. 1 “World’s Best Specialized Hospital in Orthopedics” by Newsweek for the third consecutive year.
