7 back pain myths debunked — and what really helps to ease the ouch
HSS spine surgeon Gbolabo O. Sokunbi, MD, joined other experts in a Yahoo Health feature to debunk some of the most common myths about back pain.
Back pain is more common as we age, but that does not mean it's inevitable, acceptable or normal.
"Expecting to have back pain because you're getting older is incorrect," said Dr. Sokunbi. "I have 80-year-old patients who've never had a day of back pain." Truth is, back pain is common among those who aren't physically fit, who sit at a desk all day or who have chronically poor sleep, regardless of their age.
