While they are many ways to treat back pain, chiropractors take a long-term approach to relieve the pain for good. "I go right for an adjustment because it offers the body an opportunity to realign, which frees up strains and pains in the soft tissues of the muscle, while giving your nervous system the ability to function free of impingement," said Christopher Anselmi, DC, chiropractor at the Integrative Care Center at HSS.

After an alignment, Dr. Anselmi recommended that patients should find a regimen that helps prevent future flare-ups.
